The Fort Wayne Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority, Inc. will host a Delta Academy and G.E.M.S Rites of Passage ceremony on Saturday, May 17, at 1pm at the Fort Wayne Urban League, 2135 S. Hanna St. The motto of the sorority’s national program is “preparing young women for tomorrow-today.” This years emphasis was on STEM education, which was supported by a grant from the Fort Wayne American Association of University Women. The Delta Academy (ages 11-14) provides an opportunity for local chapters to enrich and enhance the education that young teens receive in public schools across the nation.
The G.E.M.S. program (14-18) offers a road map for college/ career planning and conducts activities that provide opportunities for self-reflection and individual growth. During the eight week program both groups learn about scholarship, sisterhood, service, financial awareness and entrepreneurships. The Chapter will also publicly award recipients of the Floretta Clancy Scholarship to further their post-secondary education during the ceremony.
