Fort Wayne, IN, June 8, 2015 – The Fort Wayne Housing Authority is pleased to announce the hosting of its 2nd Annual Father’s Day Celebration, “The Father’s Day and Family Life Fair”, as part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s ongoing effort to strengthen and empower families. This initiative, set forth by HUD in 2011, was done so to showcase how fathers are an important resource for children and their families. They do so by investing time, money and emotional support, which in turn contributes to healthy child development.
Our event, being held on June 18, 2015 at the McMillen Community Center, will feature a number a family-friendly activities, such as panel of local fathers speaking about the importance of a father’s role in a family; an information fair offering materials on family activities, job and education opportunities, and financial assistance, to name a few; as well as games, crafts and face painting for the children. In addition, food will be served to all attendees and a number of door prizes will be given away.
As a part of our continuing effort to create lasting relationships with local social service organizations, we have confirmed that over 40 organizations and businesses will be present as a part of the informational portion of the event. The information being provided is a crucial piece in helping our residents reach their self-sufficiency goals, while giving them access to a network of key agencies in our area which offer the supportive services necessary to maintain a stable home for their family.
This is a free event offered by the Fort Wayne Housing Authority and we have extended invitations to all program participants, over 4,000 in total. It is our hope that a majority of these participants take advantage of this event and all that it has to offer.
