FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – Hattie Moore volunteers at the Fort Wayne Veterans Hospital. She helps to coordinate drivers who are also volunteers and who help take veterans to doctors’ visits and other appointments.
Inspired by her father and step-father who served in the military, Hattie joined the Army herself in the early 60s, serving two years stateside.
About 20 or so drivers help out in northern and northeast Indiana.
Hattie loves her faith and music and calls the local drivers "family."
They wanted to surprise her with this honor.
Tom Meyers, who nominated Hattie said, "She spends a lot of hours to get the vans organized. She makes sure they're in working order, and she makes sure the drivers are assigned and know what they've gotta do."
Hattie Moore says, "They are my hands and legs and arms and everything because without them, I could not do what I do, and that is to help my veterans. My motto in life is, “Do unto others, as you'd have done to you", and so whoever and whenever I meet a person, they're special. I feel so good when I go to church and thank God for all his blessings because at my age of 71, every day I wake up and thank God."
Tom calls Hattie a good woman and a great leader.
More drivers are needed, so if you're interested, call the VA Hospital. You don't have to have a special license and don't have to be a veteran.
Hattie says she appreciates the excellent medical attention she and other veterans receive, there.
You're welcome to nominate an "Angel." All you have to do is go to our website.
