FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- This month's Angel Among Us is someone you may have seen on the news, but now he's being honored for his help behind the scenes.
Mike Nutter is president of the Fort Wayne Tincaps.
More than eight years ago, Mike Doseck, a father whose son was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis 15-years ago at age 4, wanted to raise awareness and money for research.
He called Nutter who immediately told him that Coca Cola gives $5,000 for charity each year and would he like it!
The next year, he offered the stadium. for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Great Strides Walk each year!
Nutter's generosity gave Doseck hope in his quest for a cure.
The two look forward to hosting the walkers who enter Parkview Field each spring.
Mike Doseck said, "You don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth, but after three or four years of this, I turned to him and asked, what gives, why do you do this?
And, he said he's a good Christian guy, came from that kind of a family, and that his dad said that when he got established in his career, he should find a charity that has nothing to do with him and support it with all your heart, and we're it.
There's so many business people that I've met since we've been on this 15 year venture to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis, and there's a few of them that stand out, and Mike's definitely one that just stood right out to me."
Mike Nutter said, "I'd feel a lot more comfortable if it was a team type of thing, but that doesn't mean it doesn't mean a ton to me because it does.
When you are afforded the ability to give back to those in need, that's what we do in our family.
And, so because of this great game called baseball that I've chosen to call a career, we can have such a positive impact on people like Mike and his great son, Logan, and the entire Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.">
A cool relationship based on so much "good."
This year's Great Strides Walk is Saturday, May 14th in the early afternoon at Parkview Field!
Thanks for all the nominations being sent-in!
