FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - This month's Angel Among Us is a caring neighbor.
Orville Haiflich of Ossian used to farm.
Now, he sews seeds of neighborly love.
Orville says his father and his faith taught him to care for others.
He mows and works maintenance at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fort Wayne. He also takes care of the lawn at The Church in Fort Wayne... right around the corner.
The wife of the pastor there, Donna Turner, is caring for an ill husband, and "Orville the Angel" has touched their hearts.
On many days when Donna drives up to take care of the lawn, she finds that Orville beat her to it.
And, he helps others in the neighborhood with plumbing and yard work.
Donna Turner said, "You want to be the one to help people, and then you find yourself in need. It's very difficult and humbling. But when you have someone like Orville who just does it and doesn't even flinch, it's a relief, and it gives you hope that you're gonna get through this. We have people around us that care."
Orville Haiflich said, "I really appreciate what Donna and her husband did for me, and I hope that he gets better soon. My father... He did a lot of things for young people when they were getting started, and I think it rubbed off on me. I just enjoy helping people and seeing the joy they get from me helping them, you know
Orville and his wife of 36 years sent their children to Sacred Heart's school.
His daughter couldn't be with us the day of the interview, but she called the station to say "thanks" for making her father's day!
Orville Haiflich is the type of person who never expects anything in return for his kindness.
It's an honor to meet him and others like him in the community.
Keep those Angel nominations coming!
