FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - It takes a special person to volunteer with hospice. It also takes a special person to coordinate and train those volunteers.
Ann Blue is the volunteer coordinator at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home.
Kris Rajchel, the Development and Community Awareness Director, nominated her. They've worked together about six-years.
Kris calls Ann the Shepherd of her one-hundred-plus volunteers who have the hearts of servants. Ann coaches them.and matches each with patients.
Whether delivering medications, running errands or simply sitting with someone... the patient is always top priority.
Ann Blue says, "I just brought my volunteer coordinator directory, here, and this contains the names of about 105 wonderful, wonderful trained hospice volunteers, and every one has carved a little place in my heart. And, I am their supervisor, but I send them out, and they do the hard work of hospice."
Kris Rajchel says about Ann's heart, "Joyous, crazy, compassionate very kind. She's very intuitive. Very intuitive. And just tremendous in her role as volunteer coordinator. We're lucky to have her.
Ann says, "You really have to appreciate people, especially at their time of need. You have to be very willing and able to serve them. And, everything I've ever been involved with has been very people-oriented."
Ann credits family and Faith for her positive outlook. And, she loves where she works.
