FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - This month's Angel Among Us has volunteered at a local nursing home nearly 22 years, just wanting others to feel special.
Diana Edwards of Fort Wayne has been volunteering at Covington Manor since 1989 when she lost her mother-in-law.
Every Tuesday and Thursday, she gives manicures to the residents. She also helps with bingo, Christmas parties and so much more.
Diana is 80 years young... mother to four daughters... grandmother to seven... and great-grandmother to six! And, she is loved by the residents and staff at Covington Manor.
The woman who nominated Diana is 86 year old Marjorie Warner who goes to Christ's Community Church with her. She calls Diana a giving person.
Linda Jackson asked, "What was it like when you received the pone call that you'd been nominated?"
Diana Edwards said, "It was very shocking. When she said she had wonderful news, I thought it had something to do with her family, and when she told me, I went, what?"
Marjorie Warner said, "I was glad to do it. I just think it's wonderful, and I want everybody else to know. She is so friendly, and always...no one is a stranger."
Diana said, "But I love it. If you have free time, you should use it in a good way to help somebody, so I do. All you have to is walk into a place, and they'll say here, here's something you can do. You can go from room to room and talk to the people. A lot of them don't get hardly any company. Well, Mary over there...when I took her back to her room last week, she said, I wish I could do something for you. And, I said you can smile and be happy, and that's enough."
Men aren't left out of the manicures at Covington Manor. Diana is happy to use the files and lotions on them to help make them feel better, too!
Please keep those nominations coming!
