HUNTINGTON, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- A true animal lover "and" people lover is this month's "Angel Among Us."
Jean Ann Tribolet is a life-long resident of Roanoke.
A retired educator, she loves animals and the people who care for them at the Huntington County Humane Shelter.
Jean Ann even has an alum from the shelter!
A few years ago, she heard about a long-overdue building fund campaign to replace the one built in 19-72.
Jean Ann was prepared to donate $100,000.00, but she challenged shelter workers and board members to raise the first $100,000.00.
They've raised enough for groundbreaking this month for phase one.
Another $80,000.00 is needed to begin phase two.
Society Board President, Pat Merckx, says, "She has been such a gracious person throughout the years, not only Jean Ann but a good number of her friends. We've been working hard since 2000 to attempt to get some money to upgrade and redo the shelter. She's been a gift. She's been my angel.
Jean Ann Tribolet says, "We're friends, and I thought maybe she was just teasing me because people don't normally call me an angel! It's the people here and the kindness they do show. And, these people can make money stretch farther than anybody I know. I like seeing nice things happen for people, I do. And, I guess that's it
The fundraising continues with a goal of opening a new shelter in two years.
A memory wall is planned for the names of all donors, and the staff is especially grateful for Grinsfelder Associates and their help with the building.
After the new shelter opens, the staff will have a new office, an education center named after the Tribolet family, a new clinic... you name it.
