FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) - Katie McFarland is an "Angel Among Us."
The 20-year old volunteers her time to coach local girls who play competitive softball. Katie's played since she was in third grade.
Carmen Guadalupe nominated Katie as an "Angel."
Carmen and her 14 year old daughter Shai have been through some tough times at home, and Katie is a big help getting Shai through.
Katie was thrilled by the nomination and said, "Wow! I'm speechless. I try my best, I guess. I love the sport. I try to get their minds off their troubles at home or school. Softball just gets their minds off a lot of stuff."
Shai Guadalupe said, "She has a big heart, and she's there no matter what. She knows how to be serious and funny at the same time."
Carmen Guadalupe says, "She's done so much for my daughter. She's been there for her through thick and thin. She's only 20 years old. She's an angel in my book
Shai has a much older brother, so Katie is like part of the family. Carmen says she hopes it stays that way always!
Katie says she's proud that someone thinks she's doing a good job being there for these young women.
