FORT WAYNE, Indiana-Most people associate the world of high fashion with great cities like New York, Paris or Rome. But fashion’s cutting edge happens to run right down the center of Fort Wayne Indiana.

This isn’t the corporate office at Gucci or Prada, but the Fort Wayne home of Jon Paul Capito, up and coming fashion designer and software genius.

“Even before I could drive my parents would drop me off at the mall,” Jon-Paul says, “and you know I’d spend a lot of time there. I always found myself shopping quite a bit.”

Capito designs slippers, golf shoes and handbags and has them handmade by the finest Italian shoemakers. Capito likes bold patterns and colors, really likes suede, Italian calf skin, even needlepoint. His footwear is bold and colorful and very comfortable. But the footwear is only half the story. The other half is this iPad app Jon developed, available in a couple of weeks for free at the Apple Store. It lets you design your own shoes….the materials, the colors..you can even monogram your own initials on the toe or heel. When the design’s down just click ‘Buy’ and in three weeks you’ll receive your custom hand made Italian footwear just as you designed it, in the mail…all for about 300 bucks.

“By giving her all these custom options she can now truly become her own lifestyle brand rather than buying something else,” Jon-Paul says.

It’s a brilliant plan, designing the software, lining up high end Italian shoemakers and creating something new and different. Making this enterprising Carroll High School grad one of the rising stars in the world of high fashion. Eric Olson reporting, out in Your Country.
