FORT WAYNE, Indiana (Indiana's NewsCenter)--The Homestead Spartan Alliance is marching as we speak at Homestead High School, performing the routine they've practiced a hundred times. Over in Woodburn Bob Slattery puts his Woodlan Pride through their paces. In Fort Wayne the Concordia Marching Cadets are working up a sweat and over at Snider High School band director Kevin Klee performs a tuneup on his Mighty Panther Marching Band.
Kevin: They’re a great group of kids they worked so hard got a fantastic senior class and a good talented group of freshman and we’ve just had a great season so far.
Indeed they have. The marching band season came to an end last week for most schools but these bands practice on because they're headed to the ISSMA State Marching Band finals this Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Eight northeast Indiana marrching bands have won a spot in the state finals; Woodlan and Adams Central in Class D, Heritage, Norwell and Concordia in Class C, Dekalb in Class B and Homestead and Snider in Class A. These kids have been working, on average, fifteen to twenty hours a week since June on these routines, traveling hundreds of miles around the state during the competition season, all leading up to last week's semi-finals in Indy and a chance for a spot in the finals. Each of these bands is rated among the top ten in the state in their class. Snider High School's Mighty Panther Marching Band is the only Fort Wayne band to make the finals in Class A. They are not, however, resting on their laurels as Saturday approaches.
Kevin: We’ve got to play well we got to get that great concert band sound we got to march well keep our feet in time and the color guard has to have a great show.
It's a recipe that's carried Snider to the top in 2009, a recipe in fact shared by all the champion bands who will be putting their best feet forward two days from now.
Bob: I think they’re very good they play well they march well. And I think that we have a shot on Saturday. Just have to wait and see how everything comes out.
However it comes out these kids of ours have already proved they're all capable of a championship season. Eric Olson, out in 'Your Country'.
