FORT WAYNE, Indiana (Indiana's NewsCenter)--Deb: There’s a certain attention to detail, you don’t have the large brush strokes you’ve got a smaller area to work with so it’s a little bit more intricate.
EVERYONE’S DOWNSIZING THESE DAYS….SMALL IS THE NEW BIG. AND A VERY GOOD ARGUMENT FOR SMALL IS BEING MADE RIGHT NOW AT FORT WAYNE’S ARTLINK GALLERY, WHERE YOU CAN ENJOY 115 WORKS BY ARTISTS FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY, WITH NO WORK LARGER THAN SIX INCHES BY SIX INCHES. THERE ARE LOTS OF PAINTINGS HERE, SOME EXQUISITE..THESE LANDSCAPES ARE BY CALIFORNIA ARTIST MATTHEW MUTH. BUT SOME LOCAL FOLKS SHINE AS WELL..FORT WAYNE’S LISA RANSOM SMITH’S BEAUTIFUL PASTEL PORTRAITS OF MICHIGAN’S STURGEON BAY. APRIL KNOX OF LEO HAS AN OIL SNAPSHOT OF THE JOHNNY APPLESEED FESTIAL AND THIS BEAUTIFUL LOOK AT THE FORT WAYNE SKYLINE. THESE VIEWS OF THE SAME HOUSE AT THREE DIFFERENT TIMES OF DAY ARE BY FORT WAYNE PAINTER GWEN GUTWEIN. IF NOTHING ELSE THIS EXHIBIT, CALLED ‘LOTS OF LITTLE ART’, TEACHES YOU THAT SIZE, DOESN’T REALLY MATTER.
Deb: People have loved the show. Your viewer has to come in a little closer I think they view the work a little differently than a larger piece where you have to be five feet back from it as opposed to a foot back really looking at it.
THERE ARE LOTS OF VERY INTERESTING NON-PAINTINGS..THIS IS A TINY THREE DIMENSIONAL PAPER CUTOUT BY CONNIE SQUIRES OF WABASH. THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF FUSED GLASS BY FORT WAYNE’S VIRGINIA NANCE. THIS IS A FABRIC COLLAGE, CALLED ‘KIMONO ROAD’ BY FORT WAYNE’S DIANE SCHAFER, AND THIS THREE DIMENSIONAL PAINTED WOOD PIECE IS CALLED ‘THE CELL’ BY NEW YORK ARTIST HARRIET FEBLAND. THIS IS A CHARMING SHOW, THE KIDS WILL LOVE IT..ITS ON A SCALE THEY CAN WRAP THEIR LITTLE HEADS AROUND. DON’T FORGET THE READING GLASSES, THOUGH..IT HELPS. AND DON’T BE SURPRISED IF YOU HANG AROUND ENJOYING THE ART…‘TILL THE SUN GOES DOWN. ERIC OLSON OUT IN ‘YOUR COUNTRY’.
