FORT WAYNE, Indiana (Indiana's NewsCenter)--Cheryl: I was 14 years old. I heard one of his songs on the radio and took it from there.
WHERE CHERYL KIRCHNER TOOK HER INFATUATION WITH ELVIS PRESLEY WAS TO THE STORE. 35 YEARS LATER, SHE’S STILL SEARCHING FOR PIECES OF THE KING…AT GARAGE SALES, KNICK KNACK STORES..ONLINE.
Cheryl: I always try to find Elvis or what they have out or something new. This one here is from Elvis ’68 comeback special. I got this at a garage sale.
CHERYL’S ELVIS COLLECTION BEGAN WITH THIS RECORD, BOUGHT IN 1970. FOR AN IMPRESSIONABLE SOUTH SIDE HIGH SCHOOL TEENAGE GIRL IT WAS THE BEGINNING OF A LOVE AFFAIR….FROM A GREAT DISTANCE, GRANTED…BUT ONE THAT HAS WITHSTOOD THE PASSAGE OF TIME.
Cheryl: His music, the way he would sing and the way his heart was into it. He didn’t care what it cost you know, if somebody needed something he was always there to give it to ‘em. My clock!
OVER THE YEARS THE COLLECFTION HAS GROWN..GIFTS FROM FRIENDS AND RELATIVES MAINLY…AND EACH PIECE HAS SPECIAL MEANING FOR CHERYL.
Cheryl: My mother passed away and she bought this for me for my 50th birthday. She passed away January 8th at 12:25 am on Elvis’ Birthday. He was just such an inspiration to me. I feel that he was just very lonely and didn’t know which way to go. He had it all and didn’t know what to do with it. When you gonna stop collection? Probably until God takes me to heaven.
