FORT WAYNE IS AN ACTIVE CENTER FOR THE ARTS, FAR OUTPRODUCING OTHER TOWNS ITS SIZE IN FINE ART AND FINE ARTISTS. WE GOT THAT WAY AND REMAIN THAT WAY BECAUSE FORT WAYNE IS ALSO A CENTER FOR ART INSTRUCTION.

Deb: So it gives the community an idea of the talent that they have here especially if they have kids that are interested in art school and they’re trying to decide where to go.

THE TOP ART INSTRUCTORS FROM FORT WAYNE’S TOP ART SCHOOLS ARE SHOWING THEIR OWN WORK RIGHT NOW AT THE ARTLINK GALLERY..DOZENS OF PAINTINGS, PHOTOGRAPHS, DRAWINGS AND SCULPTURES BY THE MEN AND WOMEN RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS CITY’S HIGH STANDING IN THE ARTWORLD. PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE ARE REPRESENTED HERE..THIS WORK IS BY RETIRED IPFW ART PROFESSOR DON KRUSE, ONE OF THE FOUNDERS OF THE OLD FORT WAYNE ART SCHOOL. ST. FRANCIS INSTRUCTOR MAURICE PAPIER IS RETIRING THIS YEAR, THIS IS HIS WORK ‘METEOR STRIKE’. AND ONE OF THE NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK, THE FANTASTIC MEE KYUNG SHIM, NOW TEACHING PAINTING AT IPFW…THIS IS SHE, ARMED WITH ART SUPPLIES, IN A PIECE TITLED ‘HER JOURNEY’. AND THIS 3-D COMPUTER ANIMATION BY KEVIN MCNULTY OF ST. FRANCIS REPRESENTS THE ART MEDIUM OF TOMORROW. AND FORT WAYNE, AGAIN, IS ON THE CUTTING EDGE.

Deb: IPFW has a very interesting program…they’re using computer language to write code that then creates three-dimensional objects and it can be sculptures, plates or silver ware.

SO PAST, PRESENT OR FUTURE, THE ENERGY AND TALENT THAT PUT OUR TOWN OF THE ARTS MAP IS STILL STRONG, STILL COMMANDING ATTENTION AND RESPECT, GUARENTEING OUR CLAIM AS A FERTILE GARDEN OF CREATIVITY. THIS IS ERIC OLSON REPORTING.
