Rachelle joined the 21Alive news team in December 2013.
She still laughs every time she looks at her second grade journal, where her favorite Crayola masterpiece can be found about ten pages in. The teacher instructed the class to draw what they wanted to be when they grew up. Among a colorful sea of veterinarians, astronauts, and athletes, Rachelle drew a newsroom with the stick figure version of herself reading the daily news in front of a camera.
From the elementary years on, this fascination for journalism only grew. Rachelle took advantage of every opportunity in middle and high school, bringing the latest “breaking news” updates on the cafeteria’s lunch menu. Jokes aside, it was during these years that she became truly captivated by the fast-paced excitement of writing and storytelling.
Her passion for broadcasting led her to Central Michigan University. (Yes, she’s a Michigander, but we’ll have her saying Hoosier in no time!) Rachelle graduated cum laude with a degree in broadcasting and political science. While there, she reported and anchored for the university’s award winning newscast, News Central 34. She received the title of 'Best Reporter' and a Mark of Excellence Award from the Society of Professional Journalists for an investigative series on fake IDs.
• When she’s not working, she’s almost always with her very spoiled puggle, Duke.
• She was born in Ramstein, Germany.
• One of her favorite memories is skydiving with her dad.
