I'm very excited to be given the opportunity to return to my family and hometown of Fort Wayne after spending several years living and working in Chicago. So coming to NBC33 as a multimedia journalist was an amazing opportunity for me.
Then about a year after coming here, I was given the opportunity in October, 2012, to co-anchor NBC33 News at 4 and 6PM. Working alongside co-anchor Krista Miller and forecaster Katie Law is a real pleasure -- they make it easy to present a newscast that is fresh and lively.
My love for broadcast journalism began while working with the TV and radio programs at Homestead High School. Those experiences led me to DePauw University in Greencastle, IN, where I majored in Communications. During my four years there I served as a news and sports anchor for the school’s television station - D3TV, and news director for the student radio station - WGRE.
Though I cover news stories most of the time when I'm in the field, sports have always been a big part of my life. In my spare time I can be found playing in one of Fort Wayne’s football or soccer leagues, or cheering on the Braves, Bears, Blackhawks, or my beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
In September, 2014, I married my wife Jessie in a beautiful outdoor ceremony in Jessie’s hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio.
I'm always looking for new, exciting stories to cover, so if you have a story idea, feel free to reach out to me at e.defreeuw@NBC33.com or on social media (Twitter: @EricNBC33 and Facebook: "Eric DeFreeuw News").
