Rachel Martin joined the reporting staff of 21Alive in July 2011. She is excited to be living in Fort Wayne and is anxious to be involved in the community.
Rachel was born and raised in Indianapolis and knew from a very young age that she wanted to be on TV. She developed an interest in news by watching the character April O'Neil, a news reporter, from the cartoon "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". Her passion grew from there.
Rachel graduated with honors, from Ball State University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Telecommunications. While there, she won a 2006 Regional Emmy Award for co-hosting the student-run cable show, "Connections Live". Rachel was also the executive producer, reporter and anchor for Newslink Indiana, the student-produced daily newscast. She is very adept with broadcast, online and social media tools.
Before joining the 21Alive news team, Rachel worked as a production assistant for FOX59 Indianapolis. She’s interned with the NBC Today Show and had a successful reporting internship with WISH-TV Channel 8, Indianapolis.
"What I love most about reporting is that I get to learn something new and meet different people everyday. I am constantly researching and finding out new things. If I can report on something that makes a difference in someone's life, tell them something they didn't know before, or even inspire them, then I consider it a job well done."
Rachel considers herself to be here for the people. You can depend on Rachel to ask questions, dig deep, and give a thorough report. Feel free to email Rachel with any story ideas.
